A passenger aboard the Norwegian Epic sustained minor injuries after falling into the water during an incident in Catania, Sicily, on Friday, 30 May. The mishap occurred when strong wind gusts, reaching up to 45 mph, caused the vessel to temporarily break free from its moorings, severing its connection to the pier.
According to Norwegian Cruise Line, the guest was on the gangway when the vessel unexpectedly shifted due to the wind. The sudden movement caused the individual to fall into the harbour. Crew members responded swiftly, rescuing the passenger, who was then assessed by the ship’s medical team before being taken to a local hospital for further evaluation. The guest reportedly sustained only minor injuries.
Embarkation and disembarkation were temporarily suspended while the ship was re-secured alongside the pier.
The Norwegian Epic is currently undertaking a 10-day Mediterranean voyage, having departed from Rome and scheduled to visit ports in Greece, Malta, France, and Italy, before returning to Rome on 3 June.
